the challenge

Limited-edition beer releases often rely on novelty to grab attention.

The challenge was creating something more memorable than a clever name or collectible can design.

Instead of designing a beer, the goal became designing a world.

A world inspired by fantasy storytelling, tabletop gaming, medieval iconography, and adventure culture that could transform a single product release into an immersive brand experience.

the concept

Dunkels & Dragons was developed as a fictional realm where beer wasn't simply brewed—it was protected.

At the center of the story sits the Elder Tap, a mythical artifact said to contain the finest beer in the kingdom. For centuries, its power maintained harmony across the Four Realms until dragons emerged seeking to claim its magic for themselves.

The can became the first artifact from that universe.

Every visual element was designed to feel like a discovered relic from a larger story waiting to be explored.

KARBACH BREWING CO.

CREATING THE REALM

The identity system blended fantasy illustration, medieval symbolism, tabletop gaming aesthetics, and craft beer culture into a cohesive visual narrative.

Custom iconography, heraldic references, castle architecture, dragons, weapons, banners, and kingdom emblems were integrated throughout the packaging to create layers of discovery for consumers.

Rather than functioning as decoration, each element contributed to the lore of the world.

The project included:

  • Packaging Design

  • Art Direction

  • Story Development

  • Copywriting

  • World-Building

  • Product Photography Direction

  • Campaign Concepting

the outcome

The result was a collectible beer release that invited consumers into a larger narrative universe.

By combining packaging design with storytelling, the project transformed a limited-edition product into an experience—one that encouraged curiosity, discovery, and repeat engagement.

Because sometimes the most memorable brands don't just sell products.

They build worlds.
